Learn how to kitesurf
On this page you’ll find information about our kitesurfing lessons. For most new surfers it takes between 9 and 15 hours to reach a level where its safe to practise kitesurfing without the supervision of an instructor. Some need a bit more, but it’s very individual.
For that reason we offer both lesson packages and single lessons. In order to learn kitesurfing you need time on the water with an experienced instructor. For most either private or semi private lessons are recommended. That way you have more time with the instructor. In order to learn enough to become what we call “independent” you should expect to do between 3 – 5 lessons. After this stage the majority of our students are ready to continue on their own or join our intermediate groups.

Semi-private lessons
Semi-private lessons are our most popular course format for learning to kitesurf. This works well for most people and there is a good balance between waiting time and practical instruction as there are only 2 students per instructor. The advantage of sharing the instructor and equipment with another student is that you can see what the other person is doing right/wrong as most people make the same mistakes.
We offer semi-private lessons in packages ranging from 1 – 5 lessons. In general, you should expect to spend between 3 -5 lessons to become an independent kitesurfer. From there, most people can rent or buy equipment and continue the adventure themselves.

Frequently asked questions
Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our kitesurfing courses. It’s natural to have questions when learning to kitesurf. If you still have questions, feel free to contact us – we’re here to help.
No! After just two lessons, around 50% of our students get up on the board. But kitesurfing is a sport that takes time to master – so you should expect to invest some time before you can safely kitesurf on your own
Kitesurfing is dependent on the wind and weather – we need the right conditions to conduct lessons. That’s why we only determine the exact meeting point the day before your lesson. You will be sent the location no later than 20:00 the night before.
If we have an easterly wind, the lessons will take place at Cafe Sylten on Amager.
If we have a westerly wind, the lessons will take place at Sydvestpynten on Amager.
It’s very individual how quickly you learn to kitesurf. Some of our fastest students are self-driving in shallow water after just 2-3 lessons. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they can sail in both directions yet – but that they have a full grasp of the theory, can handle the kite safely in light to medium winds, and are ready to continue practicing on their own.
In general, it takes 3-5 lessons before most people are ready to train on their own.
Below we have outlined a typical learning curve:
After 1 lesson: Approx. 20% sail the first meters.
After 2 lessons: Approx. 50% sail the first meters.
After 3 lessons: Approx. 70% sail the first meters.
After 5 lessons: The vast majority can sail safely to both right and left.
Please note that the learning pace varies greatly from person to person and depends on your background in similar sports such as wakeboarding, snowboarding or windsurfing.
Denmark is one of the best places in the world to kitesurf. With plenty of wind, large shallow areas and plenty of space, conditions are ideal – for beginners and advanced riders alike.
We have some of the most kitesurfing-friendly spots around, making Denmark a true gem for kitesurfers all year round.
Pretty much anyone can kitesurf – it doesn’t require great strength or endurance. We’ve had students of all ages – from 7 to 82!
That’s because about 90% of the pull from the kite is through a harness (a belt around the hip), so you don’t need to be a superman to get started.
Yes! About half of our students come alone. We always teach in small groups, so you’ll be paired with someone else who is also solo. It’s a great way to meet a new, future kitesurf buddy!
Kitesurfing doesn’t have to be more expensive than other sports. It requires an investment to get started, but once you’ve taken your beginner’s course and bought equipment, there are no ongoing costs for the sport.
We like to say it’s the equivalent of the cost of two ski vacations – that covers both equipment and tuition. Expect to invest between 2000 and 3500€ to get started. Once you have the equipment, it can last for many years. In comparison to a ski vacation where you might get 7 ski days a year, most people kitesurf between 50 and 100 days a year!
In group lessons, there is less time for you with the equipment and it works best if there are several people who want a fun day on the water together.
In semi-private lessons, you share equipment with one other student. This provides small breaks where you can observe your partner doing the same exercises as you – a great learning method for most people! You can book alone and we will find a partner for you.
With private lessons, you have your own set of equipment and the instructor can hold the equipment for you if you need a break.
Kitesurfing is best learned in shallow water, which is why we generally teach at either Cafe Sylten on Dragør or Sydvestpynten on Dragør. In rare cases, we also teach at Farø, Lynæs or Dalbyhuse if the conditions on Amager are not optimal.
The day before your course, you will receive an email with information about where the course will be held. Remember that it is your responsibility to arrive at the right location at the agreed time.
If you love skiing, mountain biking or other action-packed sports, we guarantee you’ll love kitesurfing! Imagine being able to practice your passion more than 100 days a year without having to travel. Kitesurfing can be practiced all year round here in Denmark, and for us it feels like being on a skiing holiday several times a week – but with perfect Danish surf conditions!
